Thib cun be easily answered Horace was one ol the greatest AmcriioiJ' eduiaiou id No Ctiu uol even the highest and purest can prosper in our day witli-kout making education its ally" Some of the specific goals of driver education are to develop a strong sense of pew-omd and social responsibility lor the tonunoii wel fate to develop piide maintaining high standards of pcilormance in the opeiution ol motor vehicles and enjoyable use of vehicles and highways to promote cflec-tive habits of coopuiatlon in meeting ami solving common problems concerned with the use of vehicles ad highways and preparing people lor vocations involving tiie use of motor vehicles Expect Too Much Even though the death rate has gone down since 1912 we have expected too much of our highways and automobiles rather than realizing that the main causes of our accidents is the drivers not the speed that kills but driving too fast for conditions Here is another place where education would help a Jot If we qould teach drivers to intelligently inter pret signs like "Yield and let the driver use good Judgment instead of just saying it would be of great value on the highways to everyone To me this phase of teaching is extremely important Just this alone has already made a great difference lie-tween the typical German driver and typical American driver It tb my belief that Americans could easily be taught to use their judg ment Instead Of having strict rules laid down Driver education can help tremendously wlthxthe problem oi law enforcement ft doesn't do much good if a policeman stands guard New Arrival T' BLOOMING PLANTS nice selection GREEN PLANTS For Dish Gardens and Planters ESPELIN FLORAL CO 117 Oak HU 2-1 900 Flowers by wire anywhere on a corner because a driver might break a luw Just at the next corner because a policeman standing there By educating peuple to live fact 'dial bad driving is not only breaking a law but endangering their lives as well as others vvo can prevent more traffic violations Olivers will want to keep the law Young Learn Best The high school seems the likely place to teach driver education This is the idealistic age If not taught in school at this age mnnv would learn bad ways of driving out of school However to fully safety must lie luught from kindergarten on up Every year someone suggests thit it be required to have a driver education course in every school This has never gone through vet bo-cause such decisions should stay at the local level slm-e every locality has Its ovv problems Of course many schools complain that such a program is impossible because ol lack ol funds II they were to look at statistics they would see that enough money Is lost every year in auto accidents to teach 40-000000 high school students how to drive Many schools receive mon ey Vom die state or outside agencies Various Ways Tried Many techniques Ifave been tried In teaching driver education 'i lie-best way seems to be to have classroom instructions and practical training at the wheel The program in which classroom training is given in school and practical tiaining at home worked out well so tar Many schools now have the and "auto Minimum standards for a drive! education course tell at least how many hours should be spent training This Is a good idea Then if an insurance company for example wanted to know how certain people learned to drive and found out it was by a driver education course they would know almost exactly what he learned Probably the best time for teaching driver education is the semester before a person can get his license Otherwise learn any way but pysofeably by poor methods This should be the only way oi selecting students lor a course like this Any other way be quite fair It is only right that driver education caiyy credit for graduation because other subjects like band and machine shop do It should be made a law that all those taking driver training or the driver training car be Insured Since all are beginning drivers there Is a great chaflce for an accident Teen-agers have Ideas about ev Mrs Azubah Boyce Dies at Cheyenne Mrs Azubah Boyce member of a pioneer Livermore family died Saturday at Cheyenne
