in Colorado and NORTH PARK NOTES irada There has been a decided cut in freight rates between Chicago St Louis and all Colorado points in obedience to orders from Commissioner Vimng of thd Western Trunk Line Association On first-class height the rate has been cut from Chicago from $330 to $243 or 87 cents per hundred pounds and from St Louis from $310 to $223 The cuts on other classes of freight are as follows second class 70 cents third class 63 cents fourth class 37 cents fifth class 30 cents class A 32 cents class 28 cents class 23 cents class 23 cents This is the result of the action of the St Louis San Francisco road which rons from St Louis and taps the Atchison Topeka Santa Fe from which point goods destined for Colorado poi nts were forwarded by 'the A By the bid pool agreement which expired February 1 the St Louis San Francisco was given 87 cents per hundred on first-elass freight When the pool expired the roads agreed to keep up the rates but the St Louis San Francisco began to cut and now the other roads make tjiis cut In retaliation which will compel the St Louis San Francisco to carry fgr nothing unless the Atchison Topeka Santa agrees to pro rate which will have the effect to make the reduction of rates permanent and perhaps to bring on a war As it mow stands the Union Pacific-Burlington Missouri Denver Bio Grande and Atchison Topeka Santa Fe are arrayed against the St Louis 4 San Francisco The question is will the Atchison road pro rate If it does then will follow war to the tnife between the great trunk lines It would no doubt be better for all concerned the railroads as well as the people to let the rates remain as they are The reduction is about 25 per cent which is as much as the people ought to ask at one time It is to be hoped that the rates will remain permanent Should a war of rates follow it would unsettle business Merchants in Colorado who have stocked up under high freight tariffs would loe by a cut and could only make up losses by buying while freights were low and selling after a possible rise CLINTON FARRAX WINDER Teller Bits of Hews and Gossip From and Tioinity WINDER FARRAR MOUNTAIN AVENUE In the Sonny South
